    At one point I believed that the barriers were embedded in the side-walls, unsealed and dragged across the gap in times of need, but from a visit shortly after the June-2007 floods (in which the barrier had obviously been erected but ineffectual) revealed solid pillars keyed into the sides of the roads (between roadway and elevated pavements) with diagonal bracing elements and slotting to hold some form of shutters (removed since time of use). I have some photos of this. Somewhere.

    18 Hole Municipal Golf Course - Quite picturesque golf course surrounding the local landmark Beauchief Abbey. Enjoyable and fairly easy course with the odd duffer wearing vest and jeans to be seen!
